Dryer Vent Inspection in West Hollywood

Not sure if it is the dryer or the vent? Start with an inspection. We check airflow, the duct path, and the outside vent.

When an inspection makes sense

An inspection is the right starting point when you have symptoms but you do not know the cause. Common situations:

  • Drying time has gotten worse, but you are not sure if the vent is the problem
  • You think you may need to replace the dryer, and you want to rule out the vent first
  • You moved into a building and have no idea when the vent was last cleaned
  • A property manager wants a vent check before booking work
  • You see one symptom (hot dryer, weak outside airflow) but everything else seems fine

If you already know the vent is clogged and just want it cleaned, you can skip straight to vent cleaning.

What we check during inspection

  1. Dryer connection. We look at the duct between the dryer and the wall, including how it is secured.
  2. Visible duct path. Where the duct is accessible, we check for crushing, kinks, or disconnected joints.
  3. Airflow at the dryer. Air should move strongly from the dryer into the duct. Weak air points to a restriction.
  4. Outside vent flap. We check whether the flap opens fully, closes properly, and is free of lint or debris.
  5. Airflow at the outside vent. Strong, steady air means the path is clear. Weak air means something between the dryer and the outside is restricted.

Inspection vs full cleaning

People sometimes use these terms interchangeably, but they are different.

Inspection

We look at the system, check airflow, and tell you what we found. No lint removal beyond what we need to access. Faster and lower cost than a full cleaning.

Full cleaning

We actively remove lint from the duct, clear the outside vent flap, and confirm full airflow at the end. Takes longer and addresses the problem instead of just identifying it.

If the inspection finds a clear vent problem, you can move directly to a cleaning the same visit when our schedule allows.

After the inspection: typical next steps

What happens after depends on what we find:

  • Vent is clear, airflow is good. The vent is not the problem. The dryer itself may need service.
  • Vent is partially clogged. A standard cleaning will likely fix the airflow.
  • Vent is heavily clogged. A more thorough cleaning is needed, sometimes with extra time for long runs.
  • Duct is damaged or improperly installed. Cleaning alone will not fix it. We tell you what is needed.
  • Outside vent flap is the only issue. Often a quick fix on its own.

What you can safely check yourself first

Before booking an inspection, two simple checks give a lot of information:

  • Lint trap. Make sure it is empty and not torn.
  • Outside vent. Look at the exterior vent during a cycle. Strong air = vent is fine. Weak or no air = call us.

Do not open or take apart the duct yourself. If something feels wrong (very hot dryer, burning smell, smoke), stop using the dryer and call.

Frequently asked questions

How is an inspection different from a full cleaning?

An inspection is about checking the condition of the vent system: airflow, access, duct condition, and the outside vent. A full cleaning includes the actual lint removal. An inspection is useful when you are not sure whether you need a cleaning or appliance repair.

How long does an inspection take?

Most inspections take 20 to 40 minutes. We look at the dryer connection, follow the vent path as far as access allows, and check the outside vent.

Will you clean the vent during the inspection if you find a problem?

If you want us to. We will explain what we found and quote the cleaning before we start any additional work. You can decide on the spot or schedule for later.

Can you tell me if my dryer itself has a problem?

An inspection focuses on the vent system. If we notice obvious dryer issues during the visit — unusual noises, error codes, or signs of damage — we mention them. Full appliance diagnostics are handled separately by Vertex Appliance Repair.
